Borghetti coffee liqueur is an Italian recipe created by ugo borghetti, owner of a bar called sports café.
This homemade recipe was originally a « basic » blend of coffee and alcohol served to travelers at the nearest train station. The Borghetti liqueur was perfected by blending Arabica and Robusta coffees. Such was the popularity of this coffee liqueur that ugo borghetti began to produce more and more of it, even setting up his own workshop in rome.
In the 1970s, borghetti went bankrupt and was forced to lease his brand to the barrovecchio jesi firm until it was sold at auction in 1976 to carpano.
Since 1982, 50% of the borghetti brand has belonged to the branca brothers. While borghetti liqueur is a staple in Italy, it is enjoying a renaissance in France thanks to the cocktail scene and bartenders who use it in their cocktail creations and in more classic recipes such as the martini espresso.
